Croatia's first home battery grant filled in about a day: 9,320 applications, 1,460 for batteries

FZOEU's EUR 38 million call for family homes opened on 2 September and was temporarily closed after 9,320 applications: about 8,300 for solar, 1,324 for heat pumps and 1,460 for batteries. Batteries qualify only alongside solar. Businesses were not eligible; earlier calls covered them.

This one is for homes, not workplaces. It still tells a Croatian business owner something: when battery money appears, people queue at the door.

FZOEU, Croatia's environmental protection and energy efficiency fund, opened a EUR 38 million call for family homes on 2 September 2026 at 9:00: EUR 20 million for solar, EUR 10 million for heat pumps and EUR 8 million for batteries. About a day later the fund temporarily closed it, after receiving 9,320 applications. About 8,300 asked for solar, 1,324 for heat pumps and 1,460 for battery systems.

Batteries were eligible only together with solar, new or existing. Balkan Green Energy News reported the limits: up to EUR 5,600 or EUR 350 per kWh for a battery, and up to EUR 6,000 or EUR 600 per kW for solar, with a 70% grant rate for energy-poor households. It called this Croatia's first battery subsidy for households, after two earlier calls that backed business batteries.

Analogy: it is a bakery putting out free samples. The tray is empty before the morning rush is over.

Good: hard numbers on demand. One in six applicants asked for a battery in a first-ever round. Installers and suppliers now have proof of appetite for batteries in Croatia.

Bad: none of this money goes to companies. A factory owner cannot apply here.

Ugly: the call filled almost at once and was closed. Many applicants will miss out, and a rush of home jobs can stretch installer queues for everyone else, businesses included.
