Nevada's main utility signed for 25 years of solar with a four-hour battery: 400 MW of panels, 1,600 MWh of storage

EDF power solutions North America and NV Energy executed two 25-year PPAs for the Winston Energy project in Lyon County: 400 MWac of solar with a 400 MW / 1,600 MWh battery, delivering from October 2029. About 1,110,000 MWh a year expected.

When a utility buys solar now, it buys the battery in the same breath. Nevada just did, for 25 years.

On 18 August 2026, EDF power solutions North America said it had signed two 25-year power purchase agreements with NV Energy for the Winston Energy project in Lyon County, Nevada. Winston pairs 400 MWac of solar with a 400 MW / 1,600 MWh battery, four hours at full power. Deliveries are due to start in October 2029.

EDF expects about 1,110,000 MWh a year from the project and about $100 million in tax revenue. pv magazine USA covered the deal on 19 August. The site sits near the Greenlink North transmission line.

Analogy: it is a farm that comes with its own cold store. The crop is picked at noon and sold at dinner.

Good: a long, named utility contract for solar with storage sized at a one-to-one ratio. That gives commercial customers on NV Energy's system a clear sign of where the supply mix is heading.

Bad: no price was disclosed, and nothing here changes a business tariff today.

Ugly: 2029 is three years away. Any business in Nevada counting on this to lower bills soon is counting early.
