Croatia opened its first household battery grant. The workplace lesson sits next door in the business call.
April 2026 FZOEU call puts EUR 38 million toward household solar, heat pumps and batteries - batteries only with solar. A parallel EUR 80 million business programme targets heat and cool decarbonisation, up to EUR 30 million a project.
On 7 April 2026 Croatia's environment minister put a EUR 38 million public call on the table - the country's first household incentives that include batteries. The Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund (FZOEU) runs it. Energetski Portal published the package the next day.
This is a household chequebook. Daylight Paper's Croatia desk is a workplace desk. So the useful read is not "apply for the home grant." It is what the design rules and the parallel business money say to a factory, hotel group or cold store.
FZOEU's Zarko Latkovic, as quoted by Energetski Portal: average monthly income in 2025 up to EUR 1,341.42 unlocks 70% of the investment; higher income unlocks 50%. Caps in the same piece: heat pumps EUR 6,250-8,750; solar plants EUR 6,000-8,400; batteries EUR 5,600-7,840 - only if installed with solar. Envelope split: EUR 20 million solar, EUR 10 million heat pumps, EUR 8 million batteries. Open to owners of family houses with registered residence, legal buildings, technical requirements met. FZOEU director Luka Balen called it the first time citizens can get battery incentives so they can store what they generate, not only produce it.
Analogy: the state will help you buy the fridge, but only if you also buy the farm that grows the food. A battery without solar does not clear this counter.
"At the same time," Energetski Portal writes, a separate EUR 80 million programme opened for businesses, aimed at decarbonisation and modernisation of heating and cooling. Companies can receive grants of up to EUR 30 million per project for production and storage of thermal energy from renewables, energy efficiency, and cutting fossil fuels.
Honest limit: this business line is heat and cool. It is not an electrical BESS offtake cheque. A food plant chasing a yard battery still hunts a different stack (Modernisation Fund / NRRP self-production storage / own capex). A hotel or factory with a gas or oil heat plant, though, has a named EUR 80 million door.
Good: first Croatian household battery grant is real, dated, and capped in public euros - not a rumour. Battery-with-solar pairing is plain. Parallel EUR 80 million business heat/cool programme is the C&I door in the same announcement.
Bad: household call does not fund a warehouse roof. Do not paste 70% into a C&I spreadsheet. Business programme is thermal storage and heat/cool modernisation. Electrical battery buyers still hunt elsewhere.
Ugly: Recovery-linked money behind many of these cycles runs to a hard calendar. A call that looks open in April can be exhausted by autumn. Treat windows as perishable until FZOEU publishes remaining headroom.
