JA put a 125 kW / 261 kWh solar-plus-battery cabinet on European pre-order - one box for panels, storage and 10 ms backup
JA has opened European pre-orders for JAPlanet Fusion, a 125 kW / 261 kWh DC-coupled cabinet that takes up to 250 kW of solar and claims a 10 ms switch to backup. An updated AC-coupled JAPlanet 2.0 sits beside it at the same 125 kW / 261 kWh rating. This is a product sheet for commercial sites, not a measured bill cut.
A commercial battery used to mean three boxes on a wall: solar inverter, battery inverter, battery. JA is selling one cabinet that tries to do the lot.
PV Magazine Global (29 Sep 2026), drawing on ESS News, says JA has expanded its European commercial and industrial (C&I) range with JAPlanet Fusion and an upgraded JAPlanet 2.0. Both are listed for European pre-order from the second half of September 2026.
Fusion is the hybrid. It is rated 125 kW / 261 kWh, DC-coupled, with the inverter, battery and backup in one cabinet. It accepts up to 250 kW of solar across 20 strings and 10 maximum power point trackers (MPPTs) - the channels that keep each string of panels working near its best point. AC output can be set to a site's export limit. In backup mode, JA says an integrated static transfer switch flips the site off-grid within 10 milliseconds. Up to 10 units can run in parallel on-grid, or six off-grid. Liquid cooling, temperature, smoke and gas monitoring, aerosol fire suppression and UL 9540A system-level testing are on the sheet.
JAPlanet 2.0 is the AC-coupled twin: same 125 kW / 261 kWh class, 314 Ah cells, liquid cooling, claimed round-trip efficiency above 90%, rated output without derating up to 50°C ambient, black-start, unbalanced three-phase backup, up to 20 units in parallel on-grid and nine off-grid. An external transfer switch is listed at under 20 ms.
Ignacio Espinosa Gil, head of JA's European technical team, told PV Magazine the pitch is ageing solar sites that cannot easily add more export, plus businesses that want backup when the grid drops. Fusion is aimed at that next generation of C&I jobs: more solar use from the same connection, and resilience in one system.
Analogy: upgrading a factory lunchroom fridge. You can buy a separate freezer, a generator and a transfer switch. Or you buy one appliance that keeps food cold and keeps running for a short blackout. Fusion is the one-appliance pitch. Whether it fits still depends on your roof, your switchboard and your grid rules.
Workplace meaning. If you already have panels and your export is capped, a DC-coupled hybrid can store midday surplus instead of clipping it. If you need backup for fridges, servers or a packing line, ask for the transfer time in writing and whether the cabinet covers the whole three-phase board or only selected circuits. Fire suppression type belongs on the same checklist after Long Island's suppressant story.
Good: Clear C&I ratings, solar input headroom, backup switch times and parallel counts are on the public sheet. Pre-order window for Europe is named. The vendor links the product to grid-constrained upgrades, which is a real buyer problem.
Bad: These are manufacturer claims via trade press, not independent field results. No price, no Australian or Malaysian certification list, and no published kWh saving for any site. A 2,700 kg cabinet still needs floor loading, access and a fire plan.
Ugly: Spec sheets move. Round-trip efficiency "above 90%" and 10 ms switching are JA's numbers. We will not turn them into a payback. Buyers lock the exact SKU, fire agent and backup circuit list in the purchase order.
Soft next step: if you are comparing a hybrid cabinet against separate inverters and a battery, start with your export limit and which loads stay on in a blackout. Then a short consult at Sovryn Energy /consult if you want that brief stress-tested.
