Northern Solar accepts two CRESS letters for 189 MWac of solar, each job coupled with a battery, for data centres in Johor - the ringgit are blank, the battery size is blank, and the letters are not the supply contract

On 2 November 2026 Northern Solar Assets accepted two letters of award under Malaysia's corporate renewable energy supply scheme. One is 100 MWac of solar coupled with a battery, for 262,800,000 kWh a year. The other is 89 MWac coupled with a battery, for 233,892,000 kWh a year. On 3 November the company told Bursa the contract value is not finalised and the data centres are in Johor, with the street address confidential. No battery megawatts, no sen rate and no start date are printed.

A data centre in Johor is the customer on two letters. The letters name solar and a battery. They do not name the price, the size of the battery, or the day the power starts.

On 2 November 2026 Northern Solar Holdings Berhad told the exchange that its wholly owned subsidiary, Northern Solar Assets Sdn. Bhd., had accepted two letters of award. Both sit under the corporate renewable energy supply scheme, CRESS. That scheme is a path for a renewable plant to sell power to a corporate user across the grid. The first letter is 100 MWac of solar coupled with a battery energy storage system, for a data centre project with an annual energy requirement of 262,800,000 kWh. The awarder is a company incorporated in Malaysia, in property investment and data centre infrastructure. The second letter is 89 MWac of solar coupled with a battery, for a data centre with an annual energy requirement of 233,892,000 kWh. The awarder is a Malaysian company and a subsidiary of a Singapore-based data centre services operator. Both announcements say the awarder's name stays off the page under a confidentiality clause in the letter. Both say the commencement date is not finalised. Both say a further announcement follows execution of a definitive agreement.

100 plus 89 is 189. That addition is ours. The filings are two announcements, reference GA1-30102026-00061 and GA1-30102026-00060. They do not call the pair one plant. The Edge, in a report datelined 2 November, prints a combined 189 MW and does not print the "ac". MWac is alternating-current capacity, the output side of the inverters. A megawatt of panels measured the other way, on direct current, is a different meter. These filings print MWac. They do not print a direct-current figure.

The kilowatt-hours. 262,800,000 plus 233,892,000 is 496,692,000. That addition is ours. The Edge prints approximately 496.69 million kWh, and it prints the second job as 233.89 million kWh. 233,892,000 kWh is 233.892 million. The Edge figure is the rounded pair. The filings do not say whether those kilowatt-hours are the data centre's whole year or only the volume in the letter. Spread across 8,760 hours, a non-leap year, 496,692,000 kWh is 56.7 MW on average, by our arithmetic. The filings do not print that average. An average is not the size of the connection, and it is not the size of the battery.

The battery. Each filing says the solar is "coupled with a battery energy storage system". No megawatts. No megawatt-hours. No hours. A battery only returns energy put into it. These pages do not say whether the box charges from the solar plant, from the grid, or from both. They do not say the battery sits on the data centre's land. Two letters can mean two batteries. The pages do not say the sites share one box.

The next day, Bursa Malaysia Securities sent a query letter. The company's reply, dated 3 November 2026, reference GA1-03112026-00034, says the value of the projects has yet to be finalised. A further announcement follows a definitive agreement. The data centre projects are situated in Johor. The specific location stays confidential under the letters. A letter of award with no ringgit and no street address is not a supply contract a site can budget.

The Edge adds an older research line, so it stays off these letters. It says that in September Apex Securities spoke of a potential 170 MW solar-plus-storage project under CRESS, and the page does not say the two November letters are that project. The same Edge page repeats an October contract of RM34 million for a 9.5 MW plant. That contract is already on this desk, in the note on the 14 sen grid fee. These letters do not print a ringgit figure, so they do not fold RM34 million into the 189 MWac. The Edge's listing sentence calls the company Northern Star. The announcements use Northern Solar Holdings Berhad, stock name NORTHERN.

Two rules already filed, which these letters do not restate. The 30% data-centre note covers a parliamentary line on renewable use. These letters do not say they count toward that line, and they do not size a battery the speech left unnamed. The CRESS charge note prints 4 sen per kWh for a company buying green power across the grid, and a separate developer fee. These letters print no sen rate. A sen figure from another page is not the tariff on this letter. The earlier term sheet for a different developer is a different document. This pair of letters does not restate that project's megawatts.

Analogy: 189 MWac is two solar taps added on a notepad. It is not one machine. The battery is named and not sized. A letter of award is the handshake. The supply contract, the ringgit and the start date are still blank lines.

Good: Two dated filings, a named listed company, a named subsidiary, MWac on each letter, an annual kilowatt-hour figure on each letter, a 3 November reply that the value is not finalised, and a state, Johor, with the street address withheld.

Bad: No ringgit. No battery megawatts or hours. No start date. No customer names. No sen rate. The Edge's 189 MW drops the "ac". Its 233.89 million kWh is a rounding of 233,892,000. Its 170 MW line is a September research comment, and the page does not tie it to these letters. The listing sentence on that page says Northern Star.

Ugly: Reading 189 MWac as one solar farm. Reading 496,692,000 kWh as the battery. Reading 56.7 MW as the size of the data centre connection. Pasting 14 sen or 4 sen onto a letter that prints neither. Treating a letter of award as switched-on power. Adding the October RM34 million to a contract value the company says is not finalised.

Soft next step: write 100 MWac and 89 MWac on two lines, leave the battery kilowatts blank, and leave the ringgit blank until a definitive agreement prints them.
